A person dressed in Santa Claus costume opened fire in one of the most famous nightclubs in Istanbul. Nearly 500 people gathered at Night club for New Year Celebrations.

Then the attacker with a weapon opened fire on the civilians killing at least 35 people and injuring 40. The attack happened around 1:15 am in the Reina nightclub of Ortakoy district.

Governor Sahin said, “one person first kills the police officer outside, and then a civilian. Inside, he rained bullets brutally, mercilessly over innocent people who were there just to celebrate the New Year and have fun.”

Some customers in the club jumped into the waters of Bosporus to escape the attack. Some reports said that the attackers may still inside the club. Governor said that there was only one assailant but other reports believe that there might be at least two attackers.

Police and Security forces blocked the area close to the night club. Further, dozens of ambulances rushed to the scene and many people flew from the site by walking with arm in arm.

Owner of the night club, Mehmet Kocarslan said, “There is an increase in security measures for the past 10 days. Also, American intelligence officials warned about an attack. The attackers used Kalshnikov rifles.”

Ned Price about the attack :

National Security Council member Ned Price said, “The United States condemns in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist attack at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey, which has left dozens dead and many more wounded.”

“That such an atrocity could be perpetrated upon innocent revelers, many of whom were celebrating New Year’s Eve, underscores the savagery of the attackers.”

“We reaffirm the support of the United States for Turkey, our NATO ally, in our shared determination to confront and defeat all forms of terrorism,” he concluded.
