  1. 1. Psycholinguistics is primarily concerned with the psychological and neurobiological factors that enable humans to acquire, use, comprehend, and produce language. It studies the relationship between language and the human mind.
    2. The major areas include: language comprehension, language production, language acquisition, and the relationship between language and cognition.
    3. Language comprehension refers to the process of recognizing and interpreting spoken, written, or signed words and symbols to derive meaning from them.
    4. First language acquisition usually begins from birth or even before birth, and children actively learn their native language naturally through exposure and interaction with their environment.
    5. Example: A child learning that the word "dog" refers to all four-legged furry animals, then gradually narrowing it down to understand it only means dogs — not cats or cows. Or simply: When a child starts to understand the meaning of words and can use them to express ideas.

  2. 1.Psycholinguistics is primarily concerned with the relationship between language and the mind, that is, how people acquire, comprehend, produce, and process language.
    2. The major areas are language acquisition, language comprehension, language production, and the relationship between language and the brain (neurolinguistics).
    3. Language comprehension refers to the process of understanding spoken or written language, which means receiving linguistic input (sounds, words, sentences) and interpreting its meaning.
    4. First language acquisition usually begins from birth (even earlier, as babies react to speech sounds in the womb), starting with cooing and babbling, and continuing naturally through exposure to the language around the child.
    5. A child who begins to understand and use word meanings correctly, for example, learning that "dog" refers to a certain kind of animal. A typical sign is overextension, such as calling all four-legged animals "dog," and then narrowing it down as the child learns more words.
